Field Trips
February 26:  Basement Field Trip.  A social time and opportunity to enjoy club members’ collections.  Meet at 10 a.m. at Steve & Jodi Miller’s home.   At noon, Bob & Julia Sherwood’s home for a light lunch.  Directions will be in the February newsletter.
 
March 19, 10 a.m.:  GVSU Geology Department Visit
 
April 4 & 5   Fossil Collecting Along the Lake Huron Shore.   Help replenish our Club’s Petoskey stone supply for the Sept. Show.  All ages.  An overnight, led by Rance & Anne Westover. 
 
April 29 – May 1   Irvine KY: Mushroom Festival, Agate Hunt & Gem Show.
Agate field trips take place April 26-29, 9 a.m. daily. $10 daily fee. Register online at www.mountainmushroomfestival.org
 
May 14   Paulding, OH: Lafarge Quarry. Fossils, especially Trilobites. Safety equipment required. Overnight Friday in Bryan at Plaza Motel. Arranged by Dan Sine, Central Mich. Club
 
CANCELLED: June 12 – July 8 Oregon High Desert,  Collecting Agate, Jasper, Thundereggs, Petrified Wood, followed by big rock shows in Prineville &Madras, OR.  Ages 9 and above.  Approx. 2300 miles one way. 
 
June 11 & 12   Saginaw, MI: MGAGS Seminar. A unique event. The cost is modest and its a great way to learn / do many of the "Geo-Arts". The schedule of presentations and descriptions are on the website www.MGAGS.org. Send questions via website or call phone number on the flyer.
 
June 25   Alpena, MI: Lafarge Quarry. Variety of Fossils easily picked. No age limit. Full safety equipment required. Meet at 9 a.m., collect until 1 p.m. Approx 280 miles. Overnight Friday at Days Inn, Alpena. Arranged by Central Michigan club.
 
CANCELLED: August 6-15   North Carolina and Kentucky: Gem Mines in the Spruce Pine, NC area: Screen for Rubies, Sapphires, Garnets, Aquamarines, etc., at commercial mines (fee), on to Lucky Strike Gold Mine to pan. Collect on the return in the Irvine, KY creeks for Agate. Ages 9 and above. 8 days; approx. 700 miles one way. Guided by Rance & Anne Westover. Click here for complete itinerary.

Sept 2 – 5 (Labor Day weekend):  Flint Ridge, OH.  This famous Flint deposit is noted for its array of colors and suitability for lapidary and knapping.  The Flint Ridge Lithographic Society hosts a large flint knapping even at the Park this week, drawing master knappers from all over the country.  There is a museum across the street.   Meet Roy Miller who will allow us to collect pieces at his quarry .  Fee collecting also at John Nethers farm.  Pick, shove, hammer, and chisel work if you mean business!  Ages 9 and above.  Click here for information.
