TCG&MC organizes an annual show, publishes a monthly newsletter named the Conglomerate, and connects rock enthusiasts through various platforms, including social media, our website, and in-person events.
All are welcome to meetings! You do not need to be a member to attend general meetings. Meetings are typically held at 7 PM the last Wednesday of every month at the Howard Miller Library, 14 S Church St, Zeeland, MI 49464. Visit our Club Calendar page for specific meeting dates and times. We can't wait to meet you!
Announcements
April is here and rockhounding is in full swing!
Before we get into the rocks, we have our yearly Scholarship Banquet this month. We will be awarding scholarships to GVSU and Hope students. Additionally, we will be choosing our first Ken Hoekstra Memorial Scholarship recipient. For the first time, three members will receive scholarships to hone new skills and share their experience with the club! We are so excited for this banquet. Let us all thank the banquet committee for the hard work they put forth for this event.
As I am sure you all heard, we will have a special guest for the banquet. Our guest will be none other than Paleo Joe!! We are ecstatic about his presentation on the Fossils of Michigan! This will be a great learning opportunity for us all. I spoke with him the other day and he is just as excited to share this night with us. For those of you who do not know him, he is the author of nine books and, winner of the 2021 Charles H. Sternberg Medal for contributions to Paleontology. We could consider him a real “Fossil Hound”. He leads fossil digs and enjoys teaching all about fossils.
On a somber note, as I am sure most of you have heard, we lost another pillar of our club. Julia Sherwood passed away surrounded by her family. She was an amazing woman with a love for Geology. She has done so much for our club over the years. Please see a heartfelt tribute to her in this month's newsletter on pages 8-11. She will be deeply missed.
